June Caldwell’s storytelling sessions provide an interactive audience experience of tales and tunes, where audience members play parts, provide sound effects, and become part of the percussion band to accompany the stories. Stories and songs provide a complete storytelling experience, with stories from the Appalachian tradition, Native American and African folk tales, and original stories written by June. June plays harp, hammered dulcimer, guitar, keyboards and Native American flute. She also has a collection of mostly homemade percussion instruments, all of which are incorporated into her programs. All stories focus on cooperation and non-violence. June also offers teacher workshops, where teachers learn to use storytelling to teach core skills, and learn the skills involved in telling a good story and including the audience in the experience.
