Jim and Martha Hession, after a long career performing in West Coast Jazz Clubs, Beverly Hills hotels and Disneyland, relocated to the Mississippi Gulf Coast in 2003. Within a few weeks, Jim had joined clarinetist Jack Maheu’s “Fire in the Pet Shop Band,” played on the Steamboat Natchez and was featured in Jimmy Maxwell’s Orchestra for the 2004 Mardi Gras Balls. At that time, the Hessions entered into a promising relationship with the New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park, where they began a continuing series of themed educational shows on early jazz. The Hessions have been able to draw on their years of experience in jazz historical research to produce shows that are innovative, informative and entertaining. In 2006, the Hessions joined forces with reed virtuoso Ryan Burrage and his Rhythmakers, winning the Battle of the Bands for 2007 and 2008. Whether performing as a jazz club duo, headlining the American Quintet, TV appearances, producing stage shows, historical lectures or request programs, the Hessions bring a level of talent and versatility not often found on the music scene.
