Rebecca Jernigan is a storyteller who uses her experience as an actress and playwright to bring to life classical and original literature. She designs performances, residencies and workshops to meet the needs of presenters. An award winning storyteller, she has traveled around the world, sharing her collection of stories and folklore and gathering new ones in exchange. She now entertains and instructs audiences of all ages, recounting new and ageless stories, and emphasizing the importance of the oral tradition in all cultures. A former teacher of English, Speech, and Theatre, Dr. Jernigan’s storyteaching in the upper grades spans literary masterpieces from Chaucer to Faulkner. For elementary students she offers unique retellings of literary gems and original stories. She has enjoyed six tours of DDS schools in Europe and the Middle East where her work has received acclaim. She is the story half of the popular duo “Dance a Story,” melding the arts of dramatic storytelling and dance into lively performances often coupled with teacher workshops. An accomplished actress, some of her film credits include The Client, Elvis, the Early Years, Black Beauty, and Ode to Billy Joe. She has been a member of the Oxford/University Shakespeare Festival for two seasons, delighting audiences with her interpretation of the nurse in Romeo and Juliet. Her plays have been produced in regional, community, and academic theatres.
