Frank Stewart of Louisville comes from a long line of potters. His grandfather started the family pottery business in 1888 and it has continued since then. Stewart and his family have always concentrated on making pottery for use in everyday life. As a child he worked with his father and brothers to make pitchers, jugs, and churns that were sold in general stores throughout Mississippi. He continues to make these items today, using the same methods and materials that were used by his father, uncles, and grandfather. However, Stewart has also developed new pottery designs, glazes and production methods that he incorporates into his work. He has passed on the family tradition to his son Keith, who has his own pottery studio in Lafayette County.
