Maritime Traditions Menu
The Mississippi Gulf Coast has long been an important region for artistic traditions that relate to work on the sea, including one of America’s most distinguished boat building traditions. Originally filling the need for shrimp and fishing boats, the wooden boat builders of the coast have adapted their work to include pleasure and charter boats. The culture of the Gulf Coast has been enriched by the ethnic traditions of several groups, including the Acadians, Slavonians, Croatians, and most recently those of the Vietnamese community.
