The Crossroads Quilters are a group of African-American and Anglo-American women who live in Claiborne County. They work through Mississippi Cultural Crossroads a community arts organization based in Port Gibson, to offer quilting instruction to people of all ages. They also create their own individual quilts that are sold through the gallery at Cultural Crossroads and at other galleries throughout the country. These quilts reflect the different quilting traditions found in Mississippi and the American South, including both African-American and European-American traditions. Traditional block patterns mingle with strip and string construction techniques, and with the unique vision of the individual quilters. The high quality and unique designs found in their work has attracted notice and sales from collectors throughout the United States. |
