Mississippi Arts Commission announce Minigrant Application Deadline

For Immediate Release

April 28, 2006

The Mississippi Arts Commission (MAC) announces that June 1, 2006 is the Minigrant submission deadline for individual artists and arts organizations.

Minigrants for individual artists support the professional development of artists by funding travel and registration to appropriate conferences and workshops and services to promote the artist and supplies.  Artists may apply for up to $500, which will be paid upon completion of participation/purchase and submission of proper documentation.  Individual artist Minigrants are competitive and do not require a cash match.

Minigrants for organizations are designed to meet a wide variety of needs in Mississippi communities, schools and arts organizations and to stimulate arts projects in rural and underserved communities.  Examples of projects include presenting an artist from the Mississippi Artist Roster, engaging a consultant to work with non-profit arts boards on strategic planning, or to send an employee of an arts organization to a conference or workshop.  Minigrants for organizations range from $50 to $1,000 and require a dollar for dollar cash match.

Another Minigrant opportunity will be available in the fall with a November 1, 2006 deadline.  Detailed information regarding the guidelines and criteria can be found on the MAC website at www.arts.state.ms.us.

The Commission is a state agency, established by the Mississippi Legislature in 1968. Its mission is to be the catalyst for the arts in Mississippi. It upholds this mission through grant programs, professional development opportunities and other services to schools, communities, arts organizations and individual artists through the state. The Commission is funded by the Mississippi legislature, the National Endowment for the Arts, The Wallace Foundation and other private sources.
