FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Jackson, Miss — The Mississippi Arts Commission (MAC) will host its annual “Day at the Capitol” on the first floor rotunda of the New Capitol in downtown Jackson on Tuesday, March 22, 2011 from 1:00pm to 3:00pm.

This event provides an opportunity for the agency and its constituents to advocate for the arts and to share with the state legislature what the MAC does and how the arts enhance and strengthen the state.

“The arts have such a strong influence in every community in Mississippi, and this is our opportunity to remind state officials, especially during these tough economic times, of the importance of arts and this agency’s efforts,” said Commission Executive Director, Malcolm White. “After all, the arts are not something extra, the arts are essential,”

Participants taking part in the MAC’s annual “Day at the Capitol” will have the opportunity to join other arts enthusiasts from around the state as they gather to visit legislators and share their latest accomplishments. For more information, contact the Commission at 601-359-6030.

The Mississippi Arts Commission is a state agency, funded by the Mississippi Legislature, the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Mississippi Foundation, the Riley Foundation, the Mississippi Endowment for the Arts at the Community Foundation of Greater Jackson, and other public and private sources.  MAC is the official grants-making and service agency for the arts in Mississippi. The agency serves as an active supporter and promoter of arts in community life and in arts education.
