FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
JACKSON—“Mississippi Arts Hour,” a radio show hosted by the Mississippi Arts Commission (MAC), is now available as a “podcasted” program, allowing listeners to download it to their portable digital music players or personal computers.
The weekly program has been broadcast on WLEZ-FM in Jackson since its inception in January 2006. Broadcast each Thursday at 5:00pm, the show is hosted by MAC’s Executive Director, Malcolm White, and members of the agency’s staff. The show features interviews with Mississippi artists and others involved in the arts across the state. Past guests have included blues guitarist Jesse Robinson, storyteller Rebecca Jernigan, and State Representative Cecil Brown. In addition to the interviews, the show also includes music from Mississippi musicians as well as announcements of upcoming arts events taking place around the state.
In order to make the show more accessible statewide, MAC is now offering the show as a podcast through the agency’s website. “Technology today allows us the opportunity to offer those outside the Jackson area access to the radio program,” stated Malcolm White, MAC Executive Director. “It will also provide listeners the flexibility to receive information on the arts when it is convenient for them.”
The podcast allows listeners to have episodes of the show automatically downloaded onto their computer for later listening on an iPod or other digital music player. Listeners without a portable device can listen to the program directly through their computers. All of the episodes of “Mississippi Arts Hour” from 2007 are currently available through the podcast and new shows will be added on a regular basis.
