Relief Funds Available for Mississippi Gulf Coast Non-Profit Arts Organizations and Institutes Affected by Hurricane Katrina
Jackson, MS-The Mississippi Arts Commission (MAC) has received funds from The Southern Arts Federation (SAF) Emergency Relief Fund to provide assistance to non-profit arts organizations and institutes affected by Hurricane Katrina in Hancock, Harrison and Jackson counties. Established in 1975, SAF is a regional non-profit organization supporting and promoting the arts in the South.
“The arts organizations on the Gulf Coast have suffered so many losses. The damage goes beyond structural; it has affected daily attendance and annual membership revenues,” stated Sallye Killebrew, Arts Recovery Coordinator for MAC. “We are grateful to people across the country who continue to make donations to the SAF Emergency Relief Fund which have allowed MAC to further its efforts in the recovery, restoration and maintenance of our Coast culture.”
In order to qualify for funds, applicants must be based in Hancock, Harrison or Jackson County. The funds are to be used to assist with the repair or replacement of supplies or equipment. Funds may also be used to support the organization’s loss of operating revenue. Awards for this round of grants will range from $500 to $2,000.
The deadline for applications is July 7, 2006. For more information on the program, visit the Commission’s website at www.arts.state.ms.us or call (601) 359-6044.
