Tupelo Community Theatre receives building fund for

the arts grant

JACKSON - The Mississippi Arts Commission's Executive Director, Malcolm White will be visiting Tupelo, on Thursday, April 17th at 1:00pm to present the  Tupelo Community Theatre with a commemorative brick, signifying their receipt of a Building Fund for the Arts (BFA) grant.  The presentation will take place at the theatre, located at 201 Broadway.  These funds will assist with the continued renovation of this historic building .  The Mississippi Arts Commission is committed to assisting the creative community across Mississippi.  Giving the arts an address not only enhances economic development, but creates a better way of life for the citizens of these communities. 

The Building Fund for the Arts program is funded by the Mississippi Legislature through general obligation bonds.  BFA monies are used for the renovation, repair, expansion, enhancement and construction of cultural facilities.  Since its inception in 2001, a total of 139 grants to 98 projects have been awarded, totaling over $19 million.

The Mississippi Arts Commission (MAC) is a state agency, funded by the Mississippi Legislature, the National Endowment for the Arts, The Wallace Foundation, Donna & Jim Barksdale, The Phil Hardin Foundation, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Mississippi Foundation and other private sources.  MAC is the official grants-making and service agency for the arts in Mississippi.  The agency serves as an active supporter and promoter of arts in community life and in arts education.
