Arts Commission News Program

"Mississippi Arts Hour" Radio Show & Podcast 


Each week, members of MAC's staff host "The Mississippi Arts Hour," a radio program broadcast on Mississippi Public Broadcasting's FM and digital radio networks. The show features interviews with Mississippi artists, musicians, craftspeople, and others involved in arts and culture from around the state.

Broadcast Schedule:

Mississippi Public Broadcasting's Think Radio (statewide FM signal): Sundays, 3:00-4:00pm

Also: Mississippi Public Broadcasting's Music Radio (statewide digital signal): Saturdays, 11:00am-12:00pm

For those who are unable to tune in for the broadcasts or live out of state, MAC offers an edited version of "The Mississippi Arts Hour" as a download or through a podcast. If you have an iPod or other mp3 player, you can subscribe to the show through iTunes or by copying and pasting our RSS feed into your mp3 player's software program. January 29, 2012 - Larry visits with master puppeteer Peter Zapletal, founder and director of Puppet Arts Theatre in Jackson. Zapletal talks about his training in the former Czechoslovakia, creating programs for Mississippi ETV, and touring throughout the state with his different productions. LISTEN/DOWNLOAD

January 1, 2012 - Larry talks with Louis Arzo Youngblood (the Gearshifter), a Jackson-based blues musician. They talk about his time growing up in Walthall County, learning to play the blues from his grandfather, and the different clubs and festivals he plays at today. LISTEN/DOWNLOAD



December 18, 2011 - Malcolm visits with photographer David Rae Morris. They talk about the origins of his interest in photography, his work as a photo journalist for newspapers in Mississippi, and many years working in New Orleans. LISTEN/DOWNLOAD

November 13, 2011 - Mary Margaret talks with singer and songwriter Tommy Bryan Ledford. A native of Louisiana, Ledford played in bands in Oxford for many years and was one of the founders of the Thacker Mountain Radio program. October 30, 2011 - Diane visits with potter Rachel Ballentine from Sardis. Ballentine is known as "the clay lady." She creates unique, earth fired vessels. They talk about her beginnings as a potter and her work methods. LISTEN/DOWNLOAD
